One Click WOW sort of eliminates the need for other Photoshop or Elements books -- what's not in the manual, you don't really need once you see this book -- and don't let the paltry 88 pages fool you. It ain't the book that's the key it's the CD. While building the database for Photoshop911.com, I've seen literally hundreds of online tutorials about creating effects... if I've seen one demo on "Gel" type, I must have seen six dozen -- none of them actually accurate. So, if you really wanted to you could pick up one of those "killer" tips books, and read page after page of re-boiled rhetoric -- feeling more like road kill than killer tips -- or pour through page after page in the trendy 'design' magazines to follow a tutorial where you're really not sure if the author actually knew what he was talking about (and you're SURE you don't) -- or. . . Open OneClick WOW the moment it arrives... pop in the CD... install...
open a new file (Photoshop or Photoshop Elements)... set the type, select Styles
"WOW Plastic" #7, apply, and PRESTO: Gel type. At right you see this header I knocked out for a User Group web page makeover project. It actually took less time than it took you to read to this point in my review! (Actually, I cheated. I used the fantastic font from the SILVER fonts collection called "TraciJo" which was already outlined with the center knocked out. So half of the work was done just by selecting the right typeface.) One Click WOW works on the Layer Styles in both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. So you merely install properly and you're off and running. You really don't have to read anything, or do any step-by-step mumbo-jumbo. You could toss the book in the trash if you wanted to! But you really don't.
The collection is exhaustive. Not only does it build frames and borders, there are styles for every imaginable surface and dimension treatment. You merely go shopping in the styles palette. . . set your type or select your image. . . make it chrome, metal glass or Ice... make it crystal, gems, stones, plastics or wood. Try rock, brick, block, weaves and patterns -- then give'em the woiks with strokes, fills, shadows, glows, neon, halow or what ever you can dream. There are Gradient effects and Photo effects... vignettes, frames, borders, tints, color effects, textures, patterns, grains and even various darkroom effects. And you just click the icon. Wait a minute! What am I saying??? If you have this book, and I don't -- I'd be at a serious disadvantage! I'd have to join one of those pompous Photoshop professional organizations... I'd have to keep buying those Photoshop tips books -- and keep spending eternal hours surfing the web looking for plug-ins or actions to download -- or grinding through torturous tutorials! This could actually give you a leg up!
... er, uh... forget you read this review. I take it all back. You really shouldn't buy this book... it's really not for you -- surf on over and buy some of our other book selections... Here'ya go: * Photoshop Elements Solutions (With CD-ROM) by Mikkel Aaland * Photoshop Elements for Dummies by Deke McClelland, Galen Fott * Introducing Adobe Photoshop Elements by Lisa Lee * 50 Fast Digital Photo Techniques by Gregory Georges, Cris Rys "Seriously folks... Adobe Photoshop Elements ONE CLICK WOW is not the answer to all your image editing training -- however it will revolutionize your tool kit with instant WOW... guaranteed!"
