information about how to do what in Photoshop, this is the one. Even though we ranked

and he has distilled all of his experience in this perennial Bible bestseller. The
result is probably the most complete reference on the subject of Photoshop.
This latest edition includes complete coverage of the great new features and refinements
in version X. Tips include everything from set-up and preferences to how to edit
imageswith advanced layering.
 The CD-ROM is packed with utilities, plug-ins,
example art, and more. One of my favorites is the gallery of artwork Deke always
includes on the CD. It's always a creative shot-in-the-art to see the world's very
best examples of Photoshop at work.
Not your fathers' Photoshop
Okay, while I'm giving praise, I may as well give a few warnings. Do not expect
to pick up this book and get instant answers. The approach is "encyclopedia"
rather than guide book. It's not a reference book either. This is a book to use and
work with to become a master.
___ We ran some casual experiments with a half-dozen
"test" questions from readers and found all the answers and more. Way more.
Be warned however, simple questions can not be answered without considerable digging.
For instance, this month we had a reader write in to ask how to remove a yellowish
color cast from the flesh tones in digital photos. While it's a relatively easy process,
we decided to see how Deke handles it. Finding the correct answer took some digging,
and was actually not found in a single place in the book. We had to combine steps
from several different sections to complete the correction. This process can become
somewhat daunting to the beginner or to a person who wants just the steps to solve
an immediate problem.
