The Adobe Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers
by Scott Kelby
In the tradition of all Kelby's books this one is what I call a "browser" or "hit and run" book. It's a lot of fun and visually exciting because it's 80% pictures and offers a lot of eye-candy inspiration for doing specific, compressed techniques. I recommend it for Photoshop users with an intermediate degree of experience and a little cash to burn. If you like Kelby's style and need a digital photography 'tips' book, then you'll certainly want to add this book to your collection.
If you're looking for one of those "tell-me-everything" books, then turn to the Real World Photoshop book. If you're looking for a deep, all-encompasing digital photography reference, then pick up the Real World Digital Photography book.
Kelby does a good job presenting quick tips and tricks that today's leading pros use to correct, edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their photography. Many of the new features of Photoshop are aimed directly at the digital photography field. This book shows you -- step by step -- the exact techniques used by many professional digital photographers and retouchers, including which settings to use and when to use them. Kelby touches on:
- retouching portraits
- color correction
- digital body-sculpting techniques
- the CS' File Browser
- sharpening techniques
- dealing with common digital camera image problems
- removing noise and avoiding halos
- how to use Match Color, the Color Replacement Tool
- masking techniques
Scott Kelby is the Editor of Photoshop User magazine, and a Photoshop trainer. He's also president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP)
