Joyce Reviews:

Real World Adobe
GoLive 5
by Jeff Carlson and Glenn Fleishman
With Neil Robertson and Agen Schmitz

Reviewed by Joyce Evans

This edition of the Real World Adobe GoLive 5 book is really teriffic. It has at least one third new material to cover the new features of Adobe GoLive 5 as well as expand some areas and correct or clarify others.

What I particularly like about this book is the authors involvement not only with the book but with the user community. They participate actively in helping users get a grasp on the program through user groups. I was involved in the beta testing and was impressed with the input these guys had to the development of GoLive 5, they really know their stuff, but most importantly they "care" about how the program functions and that you can figure out how to make it work as well as they can.
__ They have brought in experts in other area to help out where needed, such as in the color calibration section and the to ensure that you the most accurate and thorough explaination in those areas.

__ Ok, so what's in the book and is it for you? To begin, the book is written for the experienced beginner, that means you should be familiar with a bit of HTML but not much, your operating system etc. Basically, you didn't unpack your very first computer today and installed GoLive 5. It's for the Intermediate user and the book progresses into advanced topics such as JavaScript scripting language, CSS, DHTML, and Dynamic links.
__ The book begins with the basics, no, it's not a blow by blow menu listing... boring! The basics meaning how to set up your page, color, text, head section, images, grids, floating boxes and more. Then it moves into Site Management--a strong point of GoLive 5. And tracking content, prototyping, building new sites and WebDAV support. Then into the advanced which is mentioned above.
__ The appendices include Mac specific and PC specific differences. Although GoLive 5 is almost the same for both platforms now.
__ This book isn't a quick start guide on how to use each tool, although you will learn how, it is a production oriented book with tons of advice and tips. This is an exhaustive and comprehensive work.
__ The bottom line is this, "No one who is serious about Web Development and uses GoLive 5 should be without this reference!" period. It's that good and that thorough.

Great job guys, keep up the fantastic work and support.
