Joyce Reviews:

Foundation Flash 5

Reviewed by Joyce Evans

This book is the base camp for your journey into honing your Flash 5 skills. It is a comprehensive, "foundational class" for nay aspiring Flash t developer, first time user of Flash 5 or anyone who simply want to strengthen their foundation in Flash.
__ Like any building, the foundation determines the longevity of the structure. Once you have a strong foundation you can concentrate on building upon it, adding interactive and visually stunning elements.

Step by step adventure...
This book literally takes you step by step through every aspect of designing your own Flash interface and gradually builds your skills with each chapter. The building process is not simply a do this then do this process, but one that thoroughly explains why you should do and then how to do it. It isn't vague or ambiguous but clear and concise, explaining tough topics so you can understand the concepts--not just the techniques.
__ The Foundation Flash 5 book follows a very logical flow of building your skills, from becoming comfortable with the workspace to beginning to learn ActionScript, and it is adequately illustrated. So many times the word adequate denotes a negative term to people, that is not the intent here at all. What I mean by adequate is, "just enough", not more images than content, you know the type. That type is fine for a quick start beginners book, but this tool goes so far beyond that. In fact it is in a category of it's own, it's not simply a quick start, or a step-by-step, or a reference. It is in fact a combination of all three types. A foundational step-by-step reference book if you will.

__ The bottom line is, if you are serious about building a strong foundation in Flash 5 and are in it for the long haul, then you owe it to yourself to build a solid foundation for your future skills. For a mere $29.99 (retail) you can't go wrong. It's not the money, but the investment of your time that is more valuable, so if you are going to spend your valuable time learning to use a powerful tool like Flash 5 then invest the time in a book such as this which is truly a great resource.
