Book Reviews by Joyce Evans...

Special Edition
Using CorelDRAW 9
by Steve Bain

This is one of the best-designed books I've read in awhile. The notes, tips, and cautions are plentiful, which really helped to enhance the topics. There is also a quick reference to special features called Power tips. A large tear out section of keyboard commands is included in the front. I had no idea there were so many shortcuts.
. . . Although this is written primarily for Windows it's easy to understand and follow along for Mac users as well. There are very few differences between the Window and the Mac. Versions, most concern the Command and Option keys. On page 4 the other exceptions are listed.

Where have all the rollups gone?

If you've used CorelDraw before, this will probably be your first question. It's answered early on with a table, which lists what was in the old rollups and where they are now, along with where to look in this book for more information. The section on What's New is referenced with page numbers to get more information on that particular topic.
. . .The way the toolbars are explained is quite unique. Instead of just showing a picture with the name of the icon, a table is used with a description, and any other tools that may be in the same flyout. I found the More Information part of the table to be extremely helpful in locating specific help quickly. This way of displaying information is also used for other dialog boxes and menus as well. Here is a sample of how the information is displayed.

Graphic Design Bookshelf - Corel 9 - review by Joyce Evans

. . . This comprehensive work is divided into 9 sections and appendixes. Each chapter ends with some very helpful troubleshooting questions and answers. And if the subject is covered in more detail or with additional information elsewhere in the book, it tells you where to look.
